Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a placental glycoprotein hormone — a heterodimer of α and β subunits — that signals through the LH/CG receptor. In research it serves as a reference gonadotropin for work on gonadal steroidogenesis, Leydig- and granulosa-cell signaling, and reproductive-endocrinology models.
